Belt test 02/25/09

so i had my 3rd belt test tonight! it went well, i think i made a couple mistakes on some stationary moves but my forms were spot on! all in all i did well! and guess what.... i broke my first board with a front kick! im really excited about it! lol! it has taken me 3 belt tests to break one and i finally did it. jay has been helping me practice with the re-breakable board that we have at home so it has helped to practice instead of just in class. our belt ceremony is next Thursday and i cant wait to start learning the green belt form and more kicks!

On the first 2 belt tests i would attempt to break a board and when i didn't i would say "i knew it." my problem was not the board itself but the fact that I viewed it as an intimidating brick wall.... all it was was a mental block that i created telling myself that it was too hard, like it was so out of my reach, so that's what it became, unattainable. as i kept practicing my confidence kept building up and that brick wall slowly became just a board that is meant to be broken. it feels good to break down that mental block that i had put there! =)

What I have learned through Martial Arts: Not make a Mountain out of a mole hill, or in other words, not make a brick wall out of a board! also, that the mind is a very powerful thing, and that we are the only ones that limit ourselves, once you say ''oh i cant do that" then you have limited your abilities! so don't ever think that you cant do something, if You WANT it, You CAN do it! hope you've enjoyed the insight of dr. Lisa! lol!

on a different note, jay is doing well, just busy working. a friend of ours bought a house up here b/c she will be here for the next 3 years as a staff member, and she has asked us to help paint and such, so im really looking forward to that! tony is still the same crazy cat, meowing for no reason in the middle of the night, crashing into the blinds early in the morning when he sees the shadows of birds flying, running around like a maniac for no reason at all.... he definitely keeps us laughing! i love that little guy, he is just so cute! it looks like the next time we will be home is in June sometime for my brother, Michael's, high school graduation. it will definitely be nice to see everyone again before we move to who knows where! we'll keep you all posted as things progress! goodnight! Love, Lisa

Martial Arts Competition. November 8th, 2008

So today i competed in my first martial arts competition. it was broken up between kids and adults; from there, age and belt rank. it was cool seeing everyone compete. there were well over 200 students from many different schools through out our area. when it was my turn, i was more nervous about speaking in front of the judges than doing my form! we had to say our name, what school we are from, the form we were performing and you had to ask permission to perform. i was shocked, i spoke loudly and did well for someone who is afraid of public speaking. so i performed my form, then the other 2 competitors did theirs. (male and female) when we were through, myself and the male student were called up. we had tied! in the event of a tie, both students perform again at the same time! i didn't know that, so i was caught off guard by having to perform a second time and when i was done i knew that my first performance was better than my second. overall, my male competitor won 1st place and i won second. it was a good experience and i am glad decided to compete!

hey!

so its been a while since the last update. i am doing well, still loving my class! i now have 2 orange stripes on my yellow belt; which means i know both parts of the yellow belt form. i have yet to earn a black stripe, but i think i will be getting it soon. (black stripes mean that you are ready to take the belt test and advance to the next rank).

so we have just over 2 months to go in NY, i have mixed feelings about moving though... on one hand i cant wait to move then on the other jay will be that much closer to going out to sea! (for who knows how long!) i just hope that we have enough time to move and get settled before he leaves, I'm sure things will work out.

i am going to be babysitting on Saturday for a couple of hours so that will be nice. i am also going to sign up for a class that will be taught at cutting edge tae know do. its going to be about 2 -3 hours of pressure point techniques. it next month sometime. I'm really looking forward to it.... oh yeah, next month jay and i are going to see the Detroit red wings play, i forgot where though! LOL! but it will be fun! other than that nothing else is really going on... Tony is still Tony, crazy as ever! he keeps us laughing and is the only cat that i have ever had that really has a spunky personality! not to mention he is really cute too!

(and jay will be there) =)

VERY ANNOYED RIGHT NOW!

GOOD NEWS: I will be having a belt test next Thursday! I'm sure i will do just fine but I'm still kind of nervous; i will have to practice more than i do to be prepared. I'm excited about it though, I really love that class!

NOT SO GOOD NEWS: so I went to class tonight and a 'classmate' thought i was 14 years old! can you believe that? I get that I look younger than I am but 14, come on! I would have been fine with 19 or 20 but I'm insulted! it makes me feel like nobody takes me seriously b/c i look younger than i am. this is irritating, its like if anyone says anything else about 'how young i look' or 'how short I am' OR 'you are so cute!' I'm gonna explode! it is soooo annoying you have no idea! (the short jokes/cute comments are a whole other blog!.... like im the only short person in this world!?; and just so everyone knows: 5 year olds are cute, adult women are pretty! GRR) what on earth do i have to do to be looked at as a 25 year old adult rather than a teenager! GRRR!
