Hello all,
First I would like to apologize for not keeping this site updated in the last couple weeks or so. I've been really stressed out about school and not home a lot. Well as of yesterday 0918 I am official done with A school. I finished 6th / 20 overall (that's right we lost one shipmate to the fleet, his total lack of effort got him kicked out the program and sent to the fleet without a job and 2 pay grade demotions). I finished with a respectable 3.39 / 4.0. Here is what is on tap for the rest of this week: Today starting at 0645 is prevent, I'm not exactly sure what that is but my basic understanding is that it is 2 1/2 days of group counseling about drugs, money, feelings, etc. For the most part the feeling towards prevent is negative, I on the other hand am going into it with an open mind and I hope to get something out of it. Prevent will be all day today, all day tomorrow (starting after a 0600 uniform inspection), and half the day Friday. Friday is graduation day, and I will be frocked (I think I spelled that right) a Third Class Petty Officer. Basically I can wear the MM3 (Machinist's Mate Third Class Petty Officer) insignia, have all the responsibilities of a MM3, with the pay of a Fireman for about two weeks. Then right after graduation Lisa and I are driving down to Saint Simon's Island, Ga for a Marriage Enrichment Retreat courtesy of all you fine tax payers out there. That's right for Lisa and I it is totally free, free hotel, free meals, the only thing we pay for is gas. We are both looking forward to this weekend. The topic of the weekend is "Knowing your role".
Anyway I still don't have my security clearance, so that means I should at least have 3 months of stress free days standing watch asking people if they have any electronic devices and to please scan again (their access badge to the Rickover Center or School Building) because that is about all the watch says for 8 hours. I plan on working extremely hard at watch and will do my best to get a different job as soon as possible. Watch is rotating shift work, which sucks if you only have one car and are married and live "off campus" so to speak.
Lisa and I are both excited my Mom and Ken should be stopping down for a day or two next month, and Lisa's parents are going to try and make it this summer along with her siblings. I think my Dad and Tonya are also gonna try and make it sometime soon, we will see. Again the invitation is always open to all family and friends to come down and stay with us. Well I have to finish getting ready for prevent. So I'll update later, maybe even tonight and let you know how my day was.
