Parades and drug deals.
Well today on about 4 hours sleep I marched in a parade that took place down town Charleston. It was the Washington Light Infantry Parade, basically to honor Washington's Birthday I think here is a link that goes over it in more depth... I think http://v1.charleston.net/stories/?newsID=130698§ion=hiprofile . Anyway it kinda sucked, don't get me wrong I love representing the Navy at stuff like this and it was awesome to hear the bystanders yell out "Go Navy" and stuff like that, it made me feel proud. The main issue I have is with my job of carrying the US Navy Flag, see the problem is the flag is too large for the pole and while marching I am unable to see anything for the most part. Let me tell you walking 2+ miles with almost zero visibility all while trying to stay in step with 3 other guys and avoid horse apples is not my definition of fun. But all in all it was a good experience and I would love to do it again, but with better equipment.
Now for the drug deal. As many of you may or may not know my Favorite Show in all the land is The Wire on HBO. It deals with the inner workings of Baltimore, from the Baltimore PD, to City Hall, and from the low level drug dealers standing on the corners to the High Level Drug King Pins. Well anyway they way they portray a drug deal was pretty accurate to the one I witnessed today. We were driving home from the parade and we passed a guy sitting on a bicycle next to a car, one of the guys was like there is a drug deal, and I was like yeah right, but then the guy rode the bike to a privacy fence were money exchanged hands through the fence and the guy rode the bike back to the car. That was pretty wild I thought. Down town Charleston is very nice in parts but like any other big city has shady areas also.
Well that is all for now.
