Parades and drug deals.

Hello all,

Well today on about 4 hours sleep I marched in a parade that took place down town Charleston. It was the Washington Light Infantry Parade, basically to honor Washington's Birthday I think here is a link that goes over it in more depth... I think http://v1.charleston.net/stories/?newsID=130698&section=hiprofile . Anyway it kinda sucked, don't get me wrong I love representing the Navy at stuff like this and it was awesome to hear the bystanders yell out "Go Navy" and stuff like that, it made me feel proud. The main issue I have is with my job of carrying the US Navy Flag, see the problem is the flag is too large for the pole and while marching I am unable to see anything for the most part. Let me tell you walking 2+ miles with almost zero visibility all while trying to stay in step with 3 other guys and avoid horse apples is not my definition of fun. But all in all it was a good experience and I would love to do it again, but with better equipment.

Now for the drug deal. As many of you may or may not know my Favorite Show in all the land is The Wire on HBO. It deals with the inner workings of Baltimore, from the Baltimore PD, to City Hall, and from the low level drug dealers standing on the corners to the High Level Drug King Pins. Well anyway they way they portray a drug deal was pretty accurate to the one I witnessed today. We were driving home from the parade and we passed a guy sitting on a bicycle next to a car, one of the guys was like there is a drug deal, and I was like yeah right, but then the guy rode the bike to a privacy fence were money exchanged hands through the fence and the guy rode the bike back to the car. That was pretty wild I thought. Down town Charleston is very nice in parts but like any other big city has shady areas also.

Well that is all for now.

hey everyone! my day at work was just OK. it doesn't seem like i'm really being trained on how to do things......eh, whatever, i'm sure i will learn, even if i have to teach myself! i had lunch at work today: Penni pasta with chicken in a garlic sauce. its not as good as it sounds, maybe it would have been better if it didn't have mushrooms in it. i hate mushrooms! they stink and taste horrible(in my opinion). when we order our food off of the menu it doesn't say what exactly is in the dish, it just tells you the main items. anywho......i was soooo very tired today. i'm not used to waking up early in the morning, so that is a struggle. i need to start going to bed earlier. last night i was in bed by 10pm, i guess that is not early enough. well tomorrow night jason and i are going to watch live boxing again! i'm so excited! Tony is doing well, i miss the little guy when i'm at work! TTYL!

-*LISA*- ISN'T HE THE CUTEST LITTLE THING! enjoy.......

today was my 1st day doing actual work. the first part of my morning was pretty easy. i observed my coworkers just to get a feel of how they do things. my boss bought me lunch so that was cool and its only like 3 bucks a day for lunch at work; which is actually cheaper than buying things at the grocery store to bring a lunch from home. they have special menus for the employees to order off of and the food is actually really good! the best part is is that you don't have to take an unpaid lunch brake if you eat in the building......they actually pay you to eat lunch; most places don't! after lunch i was training on a computer program that they have set up so new employees can get acquainted with the computer system. i have so much new info that i have to learn and it will help that i am full time. the more i do things the more it will become second nature, ya know. i did miss general hospital, so if anyone can let me know what is going on i would really appreciate it! when i got home jason and i went for a walk and rented The Departed with Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon. Really good movie! well i'm really tired. i woke up at 5:45am which i'm not used to doing so i need to get some sleep. good night! *lisa*

my first day on the job

my first day at work was actually pretty boring. we just had to fill out paper work for an hour and then basically watch videos all day. we watched stuff on how to deal with customers, different jobs at the hotel, safety procedures, etc.. we also had lunch, which was really good! I had chicken, potatoes, bread w/butter, and carrot cake for dessert! sounds good doesn't it?! we had a tour of the hotel so we know where everything is located. it was a lot of information to retain in one day, but I'm sure i will get the hang of it. my next day is on Monday, i will be working all next week: Monday thru Friday 8am to 4pm. not sure how soon they will put me on weekends, we will see. its probably alternating weekend shifts or something like that. besides my day.....Jason and i will be volunteering at this orphanage tomorrow morning. I'm so excited. i have never stepped foot in an orphanage before, i hope the living conditions aren't too bad, not for me , for the children who have no choice but to live there. I'm not sure what part of town it will be in. we may not even see children while we are there, who knows. we will not be working with them but it would be nice to meet them! we will see when we get there! i guess that is it for now.....Jason and i might go see a movie or just rent one tonight! *Lisa*
have a great rest of the day! bye for now.

I had a good day today. I went over Brook's house and helped her paint her room, it turned out really nice. Although I did miss General Hospital....but what are friends for! I will just watch today's episode tonight on SoapNet! Jason and I went out to dinner for Valentines Day. We went to The Oak Steakhouse in downtown Charleston! Great food...I got the New York Strip and Jay got Chicken Parmesan. We recommend that place for those of you who are ever in this 'neck of the woods'. I'm gonna go to the mall tomorrow and buy a nice shirt to wear on Friday for my orientation. Jason is taking a cat nap right now, before he has to go to work. Well, gotta catch the last bit of Lost! We love that show! nighty-night! *lisa*

hey everyone! i got the job at the embassy hotel! i go in on Friday for orientation. the hours are full time Monday thru Friday 7am-3pm. witch translates to: i should be home in time to catch the last half of general hospital everyday! YAY =) LOL! another good thing is that i will get to buy some new clothes! WooHoo! on a different note.....Jason and i are volunteering on Saturday at an orphanage to help clean, paint, and do other things. I'm gonna cut to the chase, for those of you who don't know......we were in a car accident driving home from Florida. We were on I95 going about 75mph when a semi kicked up a 2 by4 piece of wood, I covered my eyes at that point while Jay did his best to get out of the way. It ended up hitting the windshield on the drivers side. Thank God we were OK! The car we were driving wasn't ours, it was a loaner from the dealer. We sold our Ion to one of Jay's buddys and bought ourselves a Saturn Vue. The Vue was getting custom leather seats put in it so that is why we took a loaner car to Florida. Sorry it took us so long to post, we have been busy. I will find out weather or not I got the job at the Embassy Hotel today. wish me luck! I gotta run, I need to go the the college and register. talk to you all later. *Lisa*
there is a pic of the damage.......pretty scary huh?!

Hello again

Sorry for not posting in forever, just been kinda busy and stuck in a rut. The last month or so I've just not been happy, between not being able to go to the next phase of training, stuck on 3 sections duty (where I'd have to wake up 2 out of every 3 days at 0500 and go into work for 5 minutes so they know I'm alive and not AWOL, then not have to work till 0700), and stuck in the mail room. Don't get me wrong the mail room was by far the lesser of two evils, but it still wasn't where I wanted to be.

Well this week I asked my Chief yet again to take me off of duty sections, and to my utter and complete shock she said yes... But I have to work midnights at first. Which I can totally deal with. I will be working with one other person painting rooms and hanging pictures and stuff. The best part about this job is that I will not have to deal with anyone for the most part, which is always a bonus. I'll be working Sunday night through Friday morning 8 hours a night / morning. I'll have weekends completely off, which is great.

Well I have a Christmas story that I'd like to share with everyone:

I purchased some shirts for my grandparents from cafepress.com, you know like proud navy grandparents mumbo jumbo. Well I got a thank you letter from my grandma the other day stating how much my grandpa likes his shirt, but she had a question about her shirt that was supposed to say "Navy Grandma and proud of it". She wanted to know what the words and the picture meant, which I will not post here because I'm not exactly sure what it means but I'm pretty sure that it is a Vulgar sexual innuendo. Thank god she asked instead of just wearing it, anyway the morel of this story is be careful what you get your grandparents.

An update to my spade playing abilities:

Well shortly after my last post I hit a winning streak that made me believe that I was the next greatest thing to the game of spades since the automatic card shuffler... Well needless to say I have been humbled. I'm better than I was a couple weeks ago but still have a ways to go.

I leave you on this note:

I hope the Daytona Beach FL Area has 7-11's and Go Colts!!!!

what's up? i need to start packing for our trip. I've been procrastinating! well....I've been having bad headaches, i think its because I'm not drinking as much pop as before. Lately it seems as though I will go to bed with a headache and wake up with one too! They are a pain in the butt. Yesterday we went to get some pictures from our wedding copied and bought picture frames to give to my Godmother since she couldn't make it to our wedding. We also bought her a bottle of wine. I'm not sure how good it is going to be, I'm not a wine drinker. My drinks of choice are: Cranberry and Vodka, smirnoff raspberry, and Tequila Rose is good too; i had it in a bar once. Although I really don't drink often, and I'm not saying that because my mom could be reading this, it's true. I feel some people think drinking is 'the thing to do' but there are more important 'things to do' and to spend your money on...in my opinion. Jason never drinks and I respect that. I used to have friends who would always ask me "why doesn't he drink"? I would always tell them that it's his choice and it's really not a big deal to me anyway. Ide rather have a husband like mine than some looser who drinks too much. I know I probably got someone's panties up in a bunch.....oh well! We are all entitled to our own opinions. I'm not saying drinking is wrong, but the key is moderation! For example.....I love homemade chocolate chip cookies, but if I were to eat them all day long I would eventually get sick.....do you see where I'm going with this? Anyway....sorry if you are reading this and are mad at me....I'm not judging anyone...everybody knows someone who is addicted to alcohol. Before I go: I just want to say that I didn't wake up this morning and decided to write about alcohol....it just kinda happened. I guess I'll talk to you later. (as always, feel free to leave a comment) *Lisa*
